This corner to corner crochet scarf stops getting wider in Part 2 and starts getting longer. Up to Row 28 your scarf was a triangle, and from Row 29 it turns into the long middle that goes around your neck.
The trick is simple. One edge keeps increasing while the other starts decreasing, so the width stays the same and the scarf moves forward on a slant.
And the lace flowers come along for the ride. In Part 2 you get six of them in every band, lined up on a diagonal.

How the corner to corner crochet scarf grows longer
In this part of the corner to corner crochet scarf, every odd row starts with an increase, (tr, ch2, dc) in the next tr, and ends with DEC1. Every even row starts with DEC2 and ends with the increase, (dc, ch2, tr).
So one long edge grows by a step in every row, while the other edge loses one. Your triangle turns into a long parallelogram, and that’s the shape of the whole middle of the scarf.
Your stitch counts show it too. They go up and down inside one repeat, but they come back to the same numbers every time you start again at Row 29.
DEC1 and DEC2, the two edge decreases
Two new stitches show up in Part 2 of the corner to corner crochet scarf, and they live only on the edges. DEC1 joins a double crochet and a treble crochet into one stitch, with 2 stitches skipped between them.
You work DEC1 at the end of the odd rows, right before the last tr. DEC2 is the same idea the other way around, a treble crochet and a double crochet worked together at the start of the even rows.
If an edge starts to look loose or wavy, check these two stitches first. Skipping the 2 stitches between their legs is what pulls that edge in.
Six lace flowers in every band
Remember the flowers from Part 1? In the middle of the corner to corner crochet scarf you work six of them across, in bands that run on a diagonal.
Each flower still grows over several rows, from a single tr between two ch-5 loops to the ch-4 loops that close it. Between the bands come Rows 44 to 47, which are almost all mesh and the quickest rows of this part.

How to keep track of 83 rows
Part 2 is the longest part of the corner to corner crochet scarf, with 83 rows, so losing your place is easy. You work Rows 29 to 52 three times in total, then Rows 29 to 39 once more.
Write the repeat number on a sticky note, or put a stitch marker in the first stitch of every new repeat. The PDF also has a row tracker with a box for every row.
The stitch counts help as well, because they’re the same in every repeat. If Row 34 gives you 163 stitches and 1 ch-2 space, you know you’re on track.
Make your corner to corner crochet scarf longer or shorter
The length of the scarf comes from this part. Each full repeat of Rows 29 to 52 adds one more band of flowers and mesh.
For a shorter scarf, leave out one full repeat. For a longer one, add a repeat, but keep that extra ball of Whirlette ready, because one cake may not be enough.
Whatever you choose, always finish Part 2 with Rows 29 to 39, because Part 3 starts right after Row 39. With three repeats plus those 11 rows, my scarf measured about 15.75 inches wide and 76 inches long after blocking.

Materials & Tools:
- Yarn SCHEEPJES Woolly Whirl 215 g = 1000 m (1093 yd), 70% Cotton and 30% Wool, 1 cake. For the scarf sample I used (476) Custard Cream Centre colorway.
You might need one extra cake of Whirlette yarn in matching color if your gauge is a little bit off.
- Hook size 3.5 mm. Adjust hook size if necessary to obtain correct gauge.
- Tapestry needle (to weave and hide yarn ends).
- Scissors.

Gauge after blocking:
After Row 10 the triangle is approx. 10cm/4” high.
Gauge is not important for this project. However, changes might result in different yardage requirements and a different finished size.

Then repeat Rows 29 – 39 once more. The stitch counts are the same in every repeat.
Done with Row 39 of the last repeat? Part 3 decreases on both edges and closes the scarf in the last corner.

Corner to corner crochet scarf FAQ
Why does my corner to corner crochet scarf lean to one side?
It’s supposed to. The scarf grows on the bias, so while you work it looks like a slanted strip, and blocking helps the edges lie straight.
Why does the stitch count drop in some rows?
In the flower rows, long chain loops take the place of stitches, so the count goes down. Row 40, for example, has only 69 stitches but 12 ch-7 loops.
Do I need the chart for Part 2?
No. Every row is written out in full, with a stitch count after it. The charts in the PDF are a bonus if you like to see the flowers as symbols.
