Become a Pattern Tester

My eyes are terrible at finding my own typos.

I’ve read a pattern ten times and still skipped a stitch count. Then someone else crochets it and finds the mistake in an hour. That someone is you, and that’s why I need testers.

What is pattern testing?

You crochet one of my new patterns before it’s released. You follow it exactly as written and tell me where it was clear, where you got stuck and where the numbers don’t add up. Your notes make the final pattern better for everyone who reads it.

What you get

  • The new pattern before anyone else
  • The final PDF when the test is done
  • A pattern of your choice from my shops
  • My thanks. A lot of them.

What I ask

  • Crochet the pattern as written. Colors are your choice. Tell me before you change anything else.
  • Use the yarn and hook size from the call, or tell me what you used.
  • Finish by the date in the call. Life happens, so tell me early if you’re running late or have to stop. That’s fine. Silence is the only thing I can’t work with.
  • Send your feedback in my short form. It covers clarity, mistakes, gauge, yarn used and finished size.
  • Send a photo of your finished project, if you can.
  • Don’t share the pattern or post it before the release date.

How it works

  1. Join the list. Fill in the form below. Joining doesn’t commit you to anything.
  2. Get the call. When a pattern is ready, I email the list with photos, level, yarn, hook, deadline and what I need.
  3. Apply. Tell me which test you want. I pick a mix of skill levels, so beginners are welcome.
  4. Test. I send you the pattern and add you to a small group chat. Ask me anything, anytime.
  5. Feedback and thanks. You fill in the form, I fix the pattern, and you get your PDF.

How long do I get?

Each call says how long the test runs. Small projects get about 4 weeks. Shawls get about 6 weeks.

Who can apply?

Anyone who crochets. You don’t need to have tested before. I like having beginners, because if they can follow the pattern, everyone can. Experienced crocheters are just as welcome, because they see things I miss.

My patterns are in English and use US terms.

Questions

Do I need a Ravelry account?

No. It helps, but it’s not required.

Do I buy my own yarn?

Yes, testers use their own materials. Every call lists exactly what’s needed, so you can decide before you apply.

Will I be picked every time?

No. I choose a small group for each test. Not being picked doesn’t mean anything, and you stay on the list.

Can I sell what I make from a tested pattern?

Please ask me first.
