I Was So Over Shawls

Not gonna lie — I wasn’t planning to design another lacy crochet shawl pattern this year. I’ve seen enough. I’ve made enough. I was done.

Because let’s be real: Most lacy shawls are either too complicated… or just plain boring. They look good folded flat, but in real life? Not so much.

And then — somehow — this one just happened. A lazy Sunday. A skein of lace weight yarn I’d been ignoring. And before I knew it, I was hooked. (Pun intended.)

Why This Feels Different

Stop crocheting things you won’t wear.
Seriously. Why spend hours on something that’ll just sit in a drawer?

That was my rule while working on the Greta Shawl. I wanted a lacy crochet shawl pattern that:
✔ flatters every shape
✔ works up without drama
✔ and looks like an elegant shawl, even with stash yarn

No fluff. No filler. Just a clean stitch pattern that delivers.

Pattern Fatigue Is Real

Ever started a shawl that felt like a punishment halfway through? Yep — me too.

That’s why I kept Greta Shawl clean, rhythmic, and fun.
It grows from the bottom up using basic crochet stitches — mostly single crochet, double crochet stitches, chain stitches and smart shaping.

This lacy shawl crochet pattern doesn’t throw anything confusing at you — just a satisfying flow.

Oh, and the video tutorial is there for every step. No guessing. No “what now?”

Crochet should feel good — not like solving a puzzle on a timer.

For Real-Life Outfits

This isn’t just a shawl for styled photoshoots. This is a lightweight shawl you’ll actually wear — with jeans, dresses, cardigans.

It’s:

  • light for warm days
  • cozy on cold mornings
  • stylish enough that people will ask where you got it

And yes — they’ll be shocked when you say: “I made it.”

Why I’m Proud of This

Here’s what makes Greta Shawl work:

– A polished, modern edge (no frills here).
– Full control over size — just repeat rows for the right size.
– Works beautifully in lace weight yarn or fingering weight yarn.
– Great for showing off that gradient yarn you’ve been hoarding.
– Uses only basic stitches and intuitive stitch combinations.
– It’s part of my favorite kind of free crochet patterns — ones you’ll actually finish.
– And yep — full video tutorial included.

This is the kind of lacy crochet shawl pattern you make once… and then again in a different color. Because one beautiful lacy texture is never enough.

And when you make it, tag me. I want to see your version — even if you mess it up. Especially if you mess it up.

        Dear Sylwia

Thanks for the response – I thought perhaps you had invented a new stitch! Other than that, I thought I was going mad,

I did purchase he yarn recommended for the shawl e.g. malabrigo silkpaca but I am finding it very difficult to crochet with – I see in the video tutorial you use a different yarn which seems easier to crochet with.

        Kind regards
        Lynne

    Hi Sylwia

Can you please tell me why the dc2tog written instruction states to repeat twice and why you pull through 4 loops when the tutorial only repeats once and you then pull through 3 loops not 4!
dc2tog (double crochet 2 together) – [yo, insert hook in indicated st, yo, draw up a loop, yo, pull through 2 loops] rep […] twice, yo, pull through all 4 loops on hook.

Thanks for pointing out the mistake in the dc2tog (double crochet 2 together) instructions. You’re correct that it should be 3 loops on the hook, not 4. I’m sorry for the confusion. I’ll fix the instructions. If you have any more questions, just let me know.
