With just basic stitches like single crochet, chains, and double crochet, you can create stunning designs. The process is easy to learn and doesn’t require advanced skills.

HOW TO DO MOSAIC CROCHET TUTORIAL IN ROWS

STITCHES & ABBREVIATIONS (US TERMS)

ch(s) – chain(s) stitch

st(s) – stitch(es)

sc(s) – single crochet

dc(s) – double crochet

yo – yarn over

RS – right side

WS – wrong side

mosaicdc (mosaic double crochet) – work regular dc in unworked/skipped st of the same color two rows below in front of chain space (in front of work). These chains will stay behind mosaicdc and will stay unworked.

READING THE CHART

To start, you need to understand how to read the chart. The chart is like a map for your crochet project.

  • Begin reading the mosaic chart from the bottom.
  • Rows are read from right to left.
  • Each row’s squares show one row in one color. One square means single crochet or mosaicdc or a skipped stitch (make chain).
  • The first square of every row indicates the color to use for that row. Squares of different colors show skipped stitches.
  • Make the same number of chains as the number of skipped stitches plus one to keep things smooth. For example, for one skipped stitch, make two chains; for two skipped stitches, make three chains, and so on.
  • Be careful with skipped stitches to keep your work neat.
  • mosaicdc stitches always go in front of chains from the previous row.
